During summer vacation, many teenagers find themselves uncertain about how to best utilize their free time.

Some choose to take on summer jobs, while others spend their days attending camps or traveling with family.

For 14-year-old Ellie Yeater from West Virginia, the summer of 2016 was the perfect opportunity to bring a dream to life. With a clear plan in mind, Ellie set out to transform a rundown camper into a beautiful hangout spot for her and her friends. Her dedication and hard work resulted in an incredible accomplishment that deserves admiration and applause.

Ellie’s journey began with a bold decision to use her birthday money to purchase a 1974 camper in need of significant repair. The interior had remained unchanged since the 70s, with outdated furniture and worn-out flooring, making it a challenging project. However, Ellie was undeterred. Her mother, Lori, explained, “It needed work… lots of work.” But Ellie was ready to roll up her sleeves and get started.

With her father and brother, both experienced in renovations, by her side, Ellie began the process by removing the old flooring. This was no small task, but her determination kept her motivated. Scraping away the remnants of the past, she prepared the camper for a fresh start. Ellie wanted to make the space uniquely hers, so she selected a vibrant shade of blue called “Mystic Sea” for the exterior, giving the camper a cheerful and inviting appearance.

Moving on to the interior, Ellie chose a warm, peachy tone for the walls and added aqua blue accents to create a harmonious and bright atmosphere. The outdated 70s tiles were replaced with modern wood-patterned flooring, providing a sleek and stylish foundation. Ellie’s vision extended beyond the basics, and she paid close attention to the details, ensuring every element contributed to her dream space.

The decorating phase brought even more excitement. Ellie’s grandmother joined in to help, sewing custom curtains, towels, and pillowcases that perfectly complemented the camper’s new look. These personal touches transformed the space into a cozy and welcoming retreat. Ellie’s creativity and resourcefulness were evident in every choice she made, from the color palette to the accessories.
