Maria’s life has been a constant struggle. She was from a low-income family and, in spite of her best efforts, she was never the one who seemed to get the short end of the stick. She committed her entire life to giving her son Aiden the greatest childhood possible.

She was a janitor for a cleaning firm and frequently had financial difficulties. To make sure she could feed Aiden and take care of him, Maria put in 12 hours a day at work. She sent him to a reputable boarding school in the suburbs once he was old enough.

Linda’s grandmother had given her an elegant bridal gown, which she wore. Hugh had engaged a well-known chef to cook the wedding, and the cake was enormous.

When Maria eventually got to meet Hugh and Elizabeth, she wasn’t treated very well by them. In response to a question about her degree, Maria said, “I didn’t get the chance to finish my studies because Aiden’s dad left me to raise him alone.”

Elizabeth curtly said, “Well, we couldn’t have given Linda all of this if we hadn’t worked hard.” VIP visitors to Hugh and Elizabeth included well-known businesses from the city. They appeared ashamed to identify Maria as the mother of the groom when questioned about her identity.

The families of the bride and groom took turns speaking after the I-dos and vows were exchanged. Hugh and Elizabeth were the first to take the stage and wish the newlyweds a happy marriage. Aiden and Linda were taken aback when they unveiled their gift, as Hugh had already covered the cost of the wedding.

“We sincerely apologize. From the first minute we met you, we have treated you badly.”

Maria stood next to the stage. A lot of the attendees started to grumble and whisper, knowing that the gift would be rather inexpensive in comparison.

As Maria congratulated the newlyweds, she brushed away a tear of happiness. She was indifferent to the criticism. All that Maria could think about was her son and daughter-in-law. The entire wedding party was stunned by her next statement, though.

“I knew your college education would be costly, so I worked my entire life and saved money to cover the cost. I thought, ‘Wow, even more expensive,’ when you decided you wanted to become a doctor,” Maria jokingly said.

It was evident to her that Elizabeth and Hugh were laughing at her rather than with her. Before proceeding, Maria dug inside her purse to retrieve an envelope.

The strange thing is that you didn’t even need all of the money I saved because you were awarded a scholarship to study medicine. “What better way to congratulate you on getting married to this brilliant young woman and about to get your doctorate than by buying you a house,” Maria disclosed.

When Maria opened her packet and gave Aiden and Linda a set of keys, the whole wedding party let out a gasp. Everyone cheered, leaving Hugh and Elizabeth speechless. Hugh and Elizabeth apologized to Maria after the ceremony.

“We sincerely apologize. From the first minute we met you, we have treated you badly. We regret that we judged you. Elizabeth said Maria, “You’ve truly shown us how remarkable you are.”

Aiden completed his degree and began working as a physician in Hugh’s practice before the end of the year. Maria had to give up her job as a janitor, according to Aiden’s demands.
